Timeless Harmonic

Infinite beats with patterns create a timeless loop where you lost into a new dimension! After two years of studying in Germany, Techno music becomes one of my enjoyable music genres as it concretizes a person’s emotion and feeling of loss and presenting it by underground music event. The repetitive four on the floor beat magically fit with the physical space to express the feeling and background of one place, resonating the style and the body with the whole atmosphere, including the beat of sound and the visual representation of one place in the spiritual level. This experience is obtained by the life I have been through in Germany, especially in Hamburg and Berlin where people often organized self-conducted underground parties. I believe knowing one place is not only physically attending there but feel it as a whole.

The first time I went to Berlin and Hamburg, I have no idea about this place from a mental perspective. My international friends were telling me that people in Berlin and Hamburg like to express themselves in a spiritual way. I do not understand what they were saying until I attend some underground parties. Those parties unintentionally let all the elements of one place “fit together” to create a strong scene of immersive. As time passed by, the more and more I feel this indescribable scene, the more I notice that the whole “fitting together” concept is an artwork that represents one's spiritual and mental status in a solid way.

After I come back from Germany, I cannot find a way to express my spiritual status about this place as not many people try to express them or even can describe the feeling. The landscape of Hong Kong gives people an indescribable emotion of the whole mixture of loss and hustle. It is different from the loss that I got back in Hamburg when feeling evoked only by underground party. In opposite, you can feel the loss both in time and physical location. Being to immerge into it with its daily life event, even simply walking down on the street. The repetitive pattern of Hong Kong buildings, the lights, the crowds, or even the visual images of Hong Kong traditional art lead me to the chaotic loss. No Doubt it is very different to me and it is un-adaptive. I cannot find a way to express my spiritual status about this place as not many people try to express them or even can describe the feeling, so maybe combining the visual repetitive style with the sound repetitive style helps! In an interactive way, John Whitney’s work gave me a great idea of “fitting together” with visual and sound. His “Harmony Progression” concept is a similar idea I get from going to Techno event. In an aesthetic way, Lu Yang’s work gave me a great reference style of expressing Hong Kong style. I realize that the visual landscapes of daily objects of Hong Kong are a great source of fitting together with music. To create the loss feeling, the best solution to show this unique lost land of Hong Kong is to go with not the direction of aesthetic but perusing the harmony of fitting together with Hong Kong Object or landscape. It is a continuous job for me to create a concrete way of harmonic to evoke people’s spiritual feelings.
